Michael Jackson - Dangerous: The Short Films Customer Review: Got Boring Michael gets a little too involved with himself, which makes his DVD's boring. I'm sure this concert would have been better in person, it did get a little long and boring. Customer Review: Mike Jackson Dangerous The movie is in excellent condition and plays very well. Really enjoyed the short films from Michael Jackson. |
Michael Jackson - The One Customer Review: GIVE IN TO ME YOU JUST HAVE TO GIVE IN TO MJ. YOU'LL SEE THINGS THAT YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE IN THIS VIDEO. I WANNO ROCK WITH YOU MICHAEL!!! Customer Review: Not really worth it. Being a pretty big Michael Jackson fan, I felt pretty ripped off after watching this DVD. Though the special is OK, it doesn't hold a candle to any of Michael's other DVDs, and is overall a pretty pointless release. The program is too short and makes no effort to portray Michael's career in detail. All you get are video clips, some concert footage (often with spliced studio audio), and an array of celebrities dumping praise upon the King of Pop. Sometimes their commentary seems almost fake, like they're just waiting for their compensation check and could care less about the subject at hand. Plus, do most fans really NEED to know how great Michael is? For me, the only redeeming parts of this DVD were the live clips from the Triumph Tour ('Don't Stop' and 'Ben') and the Bad 1988 Tour ('Bad'). But they were really just too short to savor. So, if you collect Michael Jackson stuff, buy this DVD. Also, if you're on the line about being a fan, check this special out. Let Beyonce, Missy Elliot, Dick Clark, et al convince you to become one. But if you're already a die-hard MJ freak, stay away, far away. |
Simon and Garfunkel: The Concert in Central Park Performed with a who's-who of East Coast session aces before a record-setting crowd of half a million fans, The Concert in Central Park finds its stars just shy of their 40th birthdays and very much in their primes, their voices sweet and pure and their playing relaxed, perfectly in tune and in synch. The show features a mix of S&G and solo Simon tunes, including all the songs that appear on the CD, with the addition of a reprise of "Late in the Evening" and the first live performance of Simon's "The Late Great Johnny Ace." This is classic material from start to finish, 87 minutes of unmitigated beauty. --Michael Mikesell |

Always enjoyed this disk on DVD and naturally wanted to upgrade to Blu-Ray. If you have a killer sound system that supports DTS audio you're going to love the improvment. Can't say the video is much improved since this was shot way back in 1988. I'm watching on a 60" Pioneer Plasma and don't see all that much difference. Wattstax (30th Anniversary Special Edition) Customer Review: More than Just the Music If you are looking for extended concert footage, look elsewhere. This is a documentary, largely centered around discussions of social issues existing in the 70's. The music is great, but this is not the smooth, homogenized, Motown Sound. This is the gritty, down home Stax style. You'll see the Stax artists in their element, and they are all great performers in my book. Customer Review: nice vibes no subtitles available, too much talking in between, great concerts and very nice audio! Pity about the rubbish between de concerts...... |

Mahalia Jackson - The Power and the Glory: The Life and Music of the World's Greatest Gospel Singer I had this already, but I share one, but if you get the trill of real Gospel, then Mahalia will trill and chill your soul. Although she's been gone awhile, I don't miss her too much do this having this. You can learn as well as take the journey with her. Customer Review: Mahalia Still Moves My Mountain These two dvds were excellently produced. The first one about Mahalia's life was informative and interesting. The second one was entertaining, although to me a little lengthy but worth every penny spent toward this dvd collection. It's great to see via dvd such a wonderful person with an inspiring distinctive voice preserved for many years for generations to enjoy and be spiritually motivated. |

Michael Jackson: Live in Bucharest: The Dangerous Tour Customer Review: But all creative Genuis' are strange I was a fan of Michael Jackson when I was young, I had several of his albums, and I loved it. In my teen years I faded out of his music, but have been getting back into it recently. I never had this video as a child, but I'm glad to have it now. The show it approx. 2 hours long, and it's a great 2 hours. There are several costume changes, wonderful classic MJ dancing (which means incredible) and even some awesome sets. Since this video was recorded in 1992 you get to go back and remember Michael when he was at a high point of fame. Now having him with all the sex stuff and how weird he has become known for, it's such a change to see him back then. The video is complete with frantic fans, crying fans, and fainting fans! It is kind of scary to watch girls crying their eyes out over the very appearance of Michael, and fainting! There is a one second part where within the first two songs you see a girl who has fainted and a security guard is slapping her on the face repeatedly, trying to wake her up, but it doesn't work. You have to feel a bit bad for these fans because they go to a concert, and don't make in 2 songs in before they faint, and miss the rest of the concert! At one point you see an amazing split-second switch as a girl is taken from the crowd and guided up to have Michael sing to her and she is in total awe and peaceful and hugging Michael and all is safe, then the guards try to take her away and in a split second she goes from peaceful, to frantic! Aside from the fan shots though it really is an amazing performance, the ending is a little long as a crew is brought on stage to put Michael in some sort of jet pack so he can fly off the stage. It takes several minutes and kind of slows down what could be a really cool ending. Customer Review: Now I know why I used to have a crush on MJ While watching this video it all came back to me why I had a crush on MJ. While watching "I just can't stop" I remembered being jealous of the singer that accompanied Michael. I wanted to be her, thigh high boots and all...I'm still perplexed by my past infatuation with the man in the mirror but apparently most of the women and some of the men at the concert felt the same....wait this is a review of the concert...it's theatrical, entertaining and it proves why countless people watched this when it aired on cable. Some have said that he appears to be lip-syncing, I think this is somewhat true. I think that Michael is singing over a voice track because there are multiple times in which it appears as if he is singing live. I think that this can account for the slight echo of his voice. It's MJ and the track at the same time. Lip-syncing or not it's a darn good show, so watch it anyway. |
The Caveman's Valentine Customer Review: Heartburned Romulus Ledbetter: "Swarms of moth-seraphs howl in my skull. Lies vex them." Short Attention Span Summary (SASS): 1. Paranoid schizophrenic Romulus Ledbetter (Samuel L. Jackson) lives in a cave in New York's Inwood Park. 2. He believes that the root of all evil dwells at the top of the Chrysler Building, emitting rays that control the world. 3. He has a host of moth-like angels swarming in his head. 4. The dead body frozen in a tree outside his cave is no hallucination 5. Gripping but highly improbable plot follows, as Ledbetter searches for answers. This is one of Jackson's finest performances, in an over-looked murder/fantasy movie that lacks a great plot, but makes up for it with great acting and vivid imagery. If you can ignore the impossible and unlikely bits, this is a good rental for fans of the unusual. Amanda Richards, April 23, 2009 Customer Review: Caveman's Valentine Previously, I viewed this movie on cable and thought it was brilliant. There was nothing else to do but to order a copy for my video library. |

James Brown In Concert with B.B. King (1983) Customer Review: Great for Parties My mom recorded this show off TV back in the early eighties. We had it on a VHS tape. But we played it so much the tape warped. I had been on a crusade for many years trying to find a copy on DVD to no avail. Later, I found it on Amazon. It is a nice compliment to entertaining. Last Christmas when my family came over for dinner, we wanted to do something different for entertainment. So we pulled out some old videos. The James Brown & B.B. King video was one of them. I could not get my family to go home that evening. We listened to the video several times. My aunt could not understand why I had not showed her this video before. Everyone had a great time laughing and dancing to the music which was excellent. In fact, my aunt had another engagement to go to but called to let them know she was running late. She did not want to leave my house until she finished watching the video. My uncle was excited about some of the songs he had not heard before and his wife insisted that we rewind the DVD so she could see James Brown dancing across the floor doing one of his famous moves. Everyone was trying to mimic some of his moves. We were falling on the floor having a ball. Michael Jackson makes a brief appearance on the video and B.B. King and James Brown take to the stage together. B.B. spices up his guitar and begins playing a James Brown tune that is simply awesome. This DVD is a must have in your library collection. It offers a lot of excitement and adds to the enrichment of any party. Customer Review: Forget (most) of the rest! Along with the technically substandard The Lost James Brown Tapes/Bodyheat, also from CA and from roughly the same time period, this is the best available example of the post-Polydor JB, rockin' - *soulin'* - along the Club and theatre circuit, cutting for small labels but out there with the delirious throngs of original and new fans, gettin' up offa that thing and shakin' up a storm - can you dig that chick in the black mini-skirt, grooving to a salacious take of Papa's Bag, out in the front row basking in rarified rays from Soul Heaven, James Brown, at his fighting weight, dancing and singing true to form. This DVD is the only Brown show commercially available to make the audience part of the show, a brilliant production technique. It's not all uptempo, though, and deep fans might notice, particularly on the ballads, a matured vocalist, offering very little in the way of trademark hollers, screams, and moans, which really permeate earlier ventures. Some of those histrionics might be missed but that's not a critical element here at all. B. B. King has a fairly short but entertaining set, Michael Jackson is invited on stage and imitates his idol on "There Was a Time", and this certifies the show as an *event*. It's been said that Prince followed MJ on stage but this section was not used (hint...for the next edition). Extras aren't much, but don't let that get you down. I repeat the review title above. |
House Party 3 Customer Review: Bernie Mac the great I only got this joke because of B-Mac. if you look at it from that perspective, this movie is great. he delivered. I didn't really pay attention to the rest of the movie though. Customer Review: Great This product was a great buy. The movie is a classic, second best compared to House Party and House Party 2. House Party is the best, but this movie is great. I couldn't ask for more, it reminds me of the younger days when I had no responsibilities and watched this video frequently. |
